Pasta Con Broccoli

Pasta Con Broccoli is one of my favourite Italian food. I first had it in one of the best Italian restaurant in Edwards ville, Illinois. From then, I desperately wanted to try this at home. From the taste of the pasta, I could guess the ingredients to an extent. It was rich and creamy with cheese, sauce, butter, garlic, mushroom, lots of broccoli in cooked shells and seasoned with pepper. It is simple to make and delicious to have. You will definitely like it. My version of pasta is with less cheese and no cream. So it may not look creamy. But believe me the taste will be really good.

Ingredients:

  • Pasta shells – 1lb (I used Rotini)
  • Pasta sauce – 1/4 cup
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Heavy whipping cream – 1 cup (optional)
  • Parmesan cheese – 1/4 cup
  • Minced garlic – 1 tsp
  • Broccoli florets – 1 cup
  • Mushroom – 1/4 cup
  • Ground pepper – 1/2 tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste

Method of Preparation:

  1. In a wide vessel, boil some water with little salt. Add the pasta shells to it and boil till it is cooked.
  2. Shells should be completely immersed in hot water
  3. Drain the cooked shells and keep it aside
  4. Heat 2 tbsp of butter in a wide skillet and add minced garlic and mushrooms
  5. Cook broccoli separately either using microwave for 4 to 5 mins or in boiling water for 2 to 3 minutes. Keep it aside
  6. Now add pasta sauce, whipping cream and a little salt as we have already cooked the shells with salt
  7. Keep on stirring till you get a desired consistency. That is till the gravy gets thickened
  8. Now add the cooked shells and and combine them until the pasta gets mixed nicely with the ingredients
  9. Now add the steamed broccoli to it and combine well for one or two minutes
  10. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese and ground pepper over it and mix it
  11. Remove from heat and serve hot with
  12. My pasta doesn’t look creamy because I did not add heavy cream. Instead I added 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese before removing from heat and kept it in Preheated oven at 450°F for ten minutes.

  3. I have been wanting to contact you all for ages but was unable to do so because the contact form would not work and I could not comment as I kept getting messages about Java and cookies not enabled but they were at my end. The message then said to contact the site administrators but I have been unsuccessful. I am happy to see that I am able to post again.

Hi Suguna, the sauce I used is Ragu Traditional Pasta sauce. But you can use any pasta sauce. Even the pasta shells, I picked in random. Any brand will be good. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for your comments.
