Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a fancy and easy sandwich. This recipe is very easy to follow and the result is just awesome. This is one of my all time favorites. When I used to work in India Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a cup of tea had been a life safer during the night shifts. You can serve this sandwich as an evening snack with cup of tea or for breakfast or even for dinner. Sometimes I have this for lunch too. I know!! Though very delicious and tempting because of the calories in  cheese and butter I restrict myself from making this very often.

I have used Mozzarella cheese but you can substitute it with any cheese such as Cheddar or Italian blend, Provolone, etc… You can also avoid the green chilies if you don’t like it spicy. The green chutney that I have used is a home made Mint and Cilantro Chutney and soon I will be posting the recipe for it. You can also use store bought green chutney or sandwich chutney which makes it even more simple. Enjoy this comfort sandwich and let me know your comments.

Preparation time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 10 minutes

No. of servings: 2

Spice level: 3 out of 5

Ingredients:

  • Bread slices – 4
  • Shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese – 1/2 cup (can substitute with your favorite cheese)
  • Butter or margarine – 4 tsp
  • Green sandwich chutney – 2 tbsp
  • Finely chopped green chilies – 1 tbsp (optional)

Method of Preparation:

Preheat a griddle or your panini maker. Butter one side of all the four slices of bread and then spread the chutney on the same side on top of butter. Sprinkle some cheese or place a slice of cheese on top of it.

Sprinkle finely chopped green chilies. This step is totally optional. You can avoid it if you are serving for kids or even adults. Melt some butter on the griddle or panini maker and place the slice of bread facing the plain side down and top it with another slice facing the buttered side down.

Spread some butter on the plain top side and close the panini maker and cook until golden brown all over with brown grill marks. If you are using a griddle turn both sides and cook until it is golden brown.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich is ready. You can serve it with ketchup or any sauce or just by itself. It’s just awesome stuff!!
