Instant Korma for Idly / Dosa

Thinking of a quick side dish for Idly/Dosa other than chutneys???…Here is the recipe for Instant Korma..Yeah Korma without grinding or without any veggies. I have never heard of Kormas without grinding any ingredient until I got this recipe from my Mother-in-law recently. But it tasted absolutely like Korma. I tried this and it tasted awesome :).

Ingredients:

  • Onion (preferably red) – 1 1/4 cup (thinly sliced)
  • Tomatoes – 1 cup (chopped)
  • Green chillies – 2 (slitted lengthwise)
  • Garlic – 5 (crushed)
  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Cinnamon stick – 1″
  • Cloves – 2
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Sambar powder – 1 tsp
  • Besan flour – 2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – for garnishing

Method of Preparation:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add the bay leaf followed by cinnamon, cloves and fennel seeds.
  2. Add the chopped onions and add some salt, garlic and green chillies.
  3. Fry till the onions become translucent and now add the chopped tomatoes.
  4. Fry for couple of minutes and add the turmeric powder and sambar powder.
  5. Fry for 2 minutes and around 1/2 cup water.
  6. Let it boil for another 3 minutes.
  7. Now mix the besan flour with water without any lumps and add to the boiling curry.
  8. Add more water if needed and boil for another 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  10. Serve hot with Idly, Dosa or even Chapati.
