Fish Puttu – Shredded Fish Stir Fry
Fish puttu is a traditional kerala dish. It’s usually cooked with shark or king fish. In south India we call it as “sura puttu” and it is most popular in all non-vegeterian cooking. It goes well with fish kuzhambhu and sambar. It can also be a great side-dish for biryani. It’s hard to find shark meat where we live, so I substitute it with Tilapia, which actually taste almost as good as shark puttu. If you are lucky to get shark meat use that instead. It’s very easy to make and tastes awesome. Preparation Time: 30 minutes No of servings: 4-5 Spice Level: 3 out of 5 Ingredients : Fish : 800gms (You can use any fish, I’ve used Tilapia) Onion : 1 (large) (finely chopped) Garlic pods : 8-9 (finely chopped) Green chilies : 6-7 (Finely chopped) (Adjust...

Read MoreHow to use Onion and Garlic for better cooking?
Img Credit : Woozie by Flickr When it comes to Indian cooking onion and garlic play a major role in almost every dish. These two gives some really good flavor to the dishes. I always wondered why we are using garlic paste in some recipe and chopped garlic in some recipes. Does it make difference in taste or reduce the flavor of it? I was reading an interesting article today on Lifehacker and I’ve got my answer for it. If you’re using onions or garlic or chives raw, in a dressing or salsa, either chop them just before serving or rinse the chopped pieces thoroughly. Water removes the harsh aging sulfur compounds from the cut surfaces, so you’ll taste only the fresh ones. If you’re heating garlic or onions or their relatives, then cooking whole or coarsely chopped bulbs...

Summer is here and market has long lines of fresh fruits. I am a big fan of berries and I know it has some good nutritional value. Smoothies are a great way to consume these delicious fruits on a hot summer day. In addition to berries, banana always adds a nice twist in flavor to a smoothie. From wikipedia: Berry colors are due to natural plant pigments, many of which are polyphenols such as the flavonoids, anthocyanins, and tannins localized mainly in berry skins and seeds. Berry pigments are usually antioxidants in vitro and thus have oxygen radical absorbance capacity (“ORAC”) that is high among plant foods.[2] Together with good nutrient content, ORAC derived in the laboratory distinguishes several berries within a new category of functional foods called “superfruits”. However, there is no physiological evidence established to date that...
