Chocolate Banana Bread

Chocolate Banana Bread is a nice variation from the regular Banana Bread. Chocolate with banana is a wonderful combination for making a moist bread. I have added some walnuts and chocolate chips in this bread. You can skip them if you like it plain. If you have overly ripe bananas at home then it is perfect for this bread. It is also a perfect gift to give your friends and family. Refrigerate this bread for a longer shelf life.

Preparation time: 75 minutes

Yield: 1 loaf

Ingredients:

  • All purpose flour – 1 cup
  • Wheat flour – 1 cup
  • Unsweetened cocoa – 1/2 cup
  • Sugar – 1 1/2 cups
  • Baking powder – 1tsp
  • Baking soda – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – 1/4 tsp
  • Eggs – 2
  • Butter – 2 sticks (at room temperature)
  • Yogurt – 1/4 cup
  • Oil – 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tsp
  • Ripe bananas – 2
  • Chocolate chips – 1/2 cup (I used white and semi sweet)
  • Chopped walnuts – 1/2 cup

Method of Preparation:

Prepheat oven to 350ºF. Prepare the loaf pan by greasing it with butter or spraying it with nonstick spray.

Sift all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and keep it aside.

In another bowl, cream sugar and butter (at room temperature) until fluffy. Add yogurt and mix well followed by vanilla extract, eggs and oil. Beat well until mixed well.

Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three batches and mix well. I switched to a rubber spatula since I do not want to over mix the batter.

Mash the ripe bananas and fold in the batter along with walnuts and chocolate chips. The batter will be thick and chunky.

Transfer it to the prepared loaf pan.

Bake for 55 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes.

Remove from the pan and let the bread cool for another 15 minutes. Cut into thin slices and serve warm.
