This is again an recipe from my sister’s (Kavitha) kitchen. She shared this recipe with me. My mom used to make this and she makes the perfect egg korma. Recently when I was speaking to my sis and it reminded me of this curry and I couldn’t wait to make it. Egg korma is always easy to make and it tastes so good. Try this recipe and lemme know how it turns out for you? Preparation Time : 35 minutes No of servings : 3-4 Spice Level : 3 out of 5 Ingredients : Eggs : 4 Onion : 1 (medium) (Finely chopped) Tomato : 2 Ginger &...

Posted by on Jun 7, 2010 in Best of ST, Featured, Veggie Entrees & Sides | 22 comments

I almost make this curry once in two weeks. I love the combo of keerai kozhambhu (spinach dal) with potato masala. My husband is not a big fan of greens, but he love this spinach dal. Adding lots of garlic into this spinach dal makes it different and tastes sooo good. There is something about this combination that’s so tasty for a south Indian Palette. And the potato curry also makes a great combination for dishes like sambar, paruppu urundai kozhambhu and  yogurt rice. Spinach Dal: Preparation Time: 30 mins No of servings : 3-4 Spice level : 2 out of 5 Ingredients: Spinach : 1 Bunch Onions : 1 (medium)(Chopped) Tomato : 1 (chopped) Garlic : 4 cloves (pressed) Turmeric powder : 1tsp Green chilies : 5-6 (according to your spice level) Curry leaves : 4-5 Toor Dal...

Idli Podi – Spicy Chilly Powder

Posted by on Jun 6, 2010 in Best of ST, Featured, Masala Powders | 18 comments

Idli podi or Idli Milagai podi is made of dry red pepper and a perfect blend of spices which is served with idli or dosa. You can make this and store it in your pantry which comes for a long duration. When you are in a hurry or if your chutney or sambar is over, this always helps. I always like to have idli podi though I have other side dishes. Idli podi with Sesame oil gives a nice aroma. When you spread this in idlis and leave it for two to three hours, it absorbs the oil and flavor of the powder and just melts in your mouth. My mouth waters when I say that. I am sharing my version of idli podi here… Preparation time: 30 minutes Spice level: 4 out of 5 Ingredients: Split chickpeas/Channa dal...

Banana-Berry Smoothie

Posted by on May 24, 2010 in Best of ST, Beverages & Drinks, Featured | 24 comments

Summer is here and market has long lines of fresh fruits. I am a big fan of berries and I know it has some good nutritional value. Smoothies are a great way to consume these delicious fruits on a hot summer day. In addition to berries, banana always adds a nice twist in flavor to a smoothie. From wikipedia: Berry colors are due to natural plant pigments, many of which are polyphenols such as the flavonoids, anthocyanins, and tannins localized mainly in berry skins and seeds. Berry pigments are usually antioxidants in vitro and thus have oxygen radical absorbance capacity (“ORAC”) that is high among plant foods.[2] Together with good nutrient content, ORAC derived in the laboratory distinguishes several berries within a new category of functional foods called “superfruits”. However, there is no physiological evidence established to date that...
